HOLD Placed on Senate WIA Bill
To: Members of the Legislative Network
From: Patricia Leahy, Director of Governmental Affairs
The Senate WIA bill has had a HOLD placed on it by a U.S. Senator on Friday which prevented the bill from coming to the Senate Floor on Friday under Unanimous Consent (UC).
Any member of the Senate can place a hold on any bill and holds are always anonymous.
The Senate and House stand in recess until December 12 and December 6, respectively.
Because the Senate is in recess until December 12, no legislative business will be conducted in the Senate until that time.
As we mentioned in our last Washington Wire, the U.S. Government is continuing under a Continuing Resolution (stopgap funding) which runs through midnight December 17. A long-term CR may be in the offing, but we will not know what the strategy is for a long-term CR until the Members of Congress return to Washington.
If there were to be a long-term CR, it would most assuredly be at the lower House funding level, which is lower than current funding for discretionary programs.
We will keep you advised as reliable information becomes known to us.
