Frequently asked questions about the Legislative Network.

  Frequently asked questions about the NRA Legislative Network

1. What is the Legislative Network?
The Legislative Network provides information on pending issues before the federal government of interest to key members of the National Rehabilitation Association and the disability community in general.

Members of the Legislative Network are required to pass information along to their Chapter, Region, or Division in a timely fashion.

2. What is the difference between Action Alerts and
Informational Alerts?

Action Alerts require immediate action by the membership and usually will include a time frame in which action is necessary. For example, an Action Alert would be sent if legislation moving through Congress would be substantially impacted by comments of NRA members.

Information Alerts are sent to Network members for their information and dissemination to the membership—but not necessarily in an urgent fashion. An example of this type of alert would be information on newly proposed legislation by the President where Congressional action is not immediately anticipated.

3. Can I receive alerts if I'm not a member of the Legislative Network?
Of course! NRA members can view current and previous alerts right from our website.

4. How are subjects chosen for Legislative alerts?
The decision is made by the President of the NRA; the Board of Directors; the Chairperson and the members of the Governmental Affairs Committee; and with the advice of the Executive Director and the Director of Governmental Affairs.

The National Rehabilitation Association's Board of Directors relies on continuous input from members of the National Rehabilitation Association and welcomes your feedback.

4. Are alerts sent out an a regular basis?
Legislative Alerts are sent out on an as-needed basis. They are sent depending on the actions of the federal government, so it is very seldom possible to anticipate the issuance of a Legislative Alert.

5. Do I need to ask for permission before using information from a Legislative alert?
No. The the NRA Board of Directors has granted permission to any NRA member to use information in the Legislative Alerts—as long as the NRA is cited as the source of the information.

6. Who are the members of the Legislative Network?
The National Rehabilitation Association Legislative Network is made up of the following members:

A. One representative chosen by each of the presidents of the National Rehabilitation Association's Chapters, Regions and National Divisions, with appointments made in their year-end reports. All participants in the National Rehabilitation Association's Legislative Network must be members in good standing of the National Rehabilitation Association and should also be members in good standing from the Chapter, Region or Division from which they received their appointment;

B. The members of the National Rehabilitation Association's Governmental Affairs Committee;

C. The National Rehabilitation Association National Board of Directors;
