The way we communicate and provide services to our job seekers has changed dramatically with advancements in technology along with the need to provide remote services due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the TREND toward more, ongoing work from home.

This interactive presentation will provide the participants with an awareness of the ethical issues that surround the routine use of technology in the practice of job placement (private and public sectors), and in identifying applicable ethical guidelines/standards for ethical practice. There will be at length discussion on the use of virtual platforms, from an ethical and professional perspective, that will also address client access and ability.


Learning Objectives


1)  Develop an understanding of ethical issues that surround the day to day routines in the use of technology in the practice of job placement – service provision and business practices


2)  Identify applicable ethical guidelines/standards for ethical application of technology use in rehabilitation practice in job placement


3)  Analyze and discuss the recognized ethical issues in the application of technology in the service provision and business practices in job placement service delivery


4)  Create solutions and operationalize choices/options for ethical rehabilitation practice in job placement




Presenter Information


John W. Lui, Ph.D., MBA, CRC, is Director Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Stout where he worked as the Executive Director for 14 years and Director of Research and Knowledge Mobilization for 2 years at Stout Vocational Rehabilitation Institute (SVRI). He was the Co-PI of the RRTC-Evidence-based Practice in Vocational Rehabilitation Service Delivery, key partner in the WI PROMISE grant, Co- PI in the RSA Program Evaluation and Quality Assurance Technical Assistance Center, and Co-PI in the RSA Targeted Communities Technical Assistance Center. He has had many leadership roles with National Rehabilitation Association, its Professional Divisions, Certified Disability Management Specialist Commission (CDMSC), and Foundation for Rehabilitation Education and Research, plus an advisory capacity with Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In 2000, he was recognized by National Rehabilitation Association of Job Placement & Development as the Lou Ortale Lecturer. He is known in the areas of Benefits Counseling, Managed Care, Ethics, Case Management, and Absence Management. He is currently working with various universities, native tribes (Blackfeet and Crow), public Vocational Rehabilitation agencies, and non- profit organizations as a consultant in the development of contracts and grants, program evaluation, staff development, and service delivery.
